DUSTY WINGS Words and Music by Niamh Varian-Barry Copyright © Niamh Varian-Barry 2018 Where is the girl who ran the woods Her mind as free as the air she drew Is she scared of her unsettled heart? Ashamed of who she has become She’s wishing she were somewhere else With a stranger who doesn’t know Praying she doesn’t have to feel Oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh Chorus: Rise from the embers That burn with broken pride Kick off your shackles And spread your unsure wings Oh those dusty little things Why did your heart stop breaking walls Start building them instead Between you and me and those who care Each brick a doubt from years ago Each row protects you from the past But you never stopped to look around
Your feet cemented to the ground Oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh Rise from the embers That burn with broken pride Kick off your shackles And spread your unsure wings Oh those dusty little things Those dusty little things Your dusty wings Rise from the embers That burn with broken pride Kick off your shackles And spread your unsure wings Oh those dusty little things Those dusty little things Your dusty wings

THE LARK OF MAYFIELD Lyrics and music by Ger Wolfe ©2003 You are the lark of Mayfield, thundelling down the hill. You are the lark of Mayfield, I can remember you still, You sang… “Yellow moon , don’t turn me around, Yellow moon , I’m lost in the sound , Of your falling tower of dark , Send an angel - following spark , spark.” You are the star of Munster, flying your dream away. You are the stone-lapped water, gliding the early day, You sang… “Yellow moon , don’t turn me around, Yellow moon I’m lost in the sound, Of your falling tower of song, Yellow moon , don’t string me along , along.” You are the Flower of Ireland, out on the drifted wave , You are the Blood of Éireann, spilled in an empty cave, Won’t you sing… “Yellow moon , I’m turning around , Yellow moon ,in homeland surround, Bog and lichen , heather and stone, River water, carry me home, home.” Oh carry me home x 3 I’m home

TAR ÉIS AN BHÁISTIGH Lyrics and music © Niamh Varian-Barry 2017 Shivers, quivers, happy trembles Le chéile arís, tar éis an bháistigh Peace and comfort under the apple tree You are fair as the moon and clear as the sun For love is as strong as death Jealousy as cruel as the grave Many waters cannot quench love Nor can the floods drown it For I am my beloved’s And my beloved is mine Peace and comfort under the apple tree You are fair as the moon and clear as the sun Peace and comfort under the apple tree You are fair as the moon and clear as the sun Clear as the sun You are fair as the moon and clear as the sun Clear as the sun You are fair as the moon and clear as the sun

I HAVE BEEN LOVED © Ger Wolfe 2008 If I can say I have been loved If I can say I have been loved It’s by your blessing that I speak These precious words, these precious words I have been loved The tree will grow and bear it’s fruit The tree will grow and bear it’s fruit It’s by your loving that the seed Sings from the root, sings from the root I have been loved The river time bears life along The river tide bears life along And by your waters we will sing The endless song, the endless song I have been loved If I can say I have done wrong If I can say I have done wrong And in your courage you forgive This wicked man, this wicked man I have been loved If I am in some dungeon dark If I am in some dungeon dark The memory of one fleck of light Will show the way, I have been loved I have been loved

SATISFIED MIND How many times Have you heard someone say If I had his money I could do things my way But little they know And it's so hard to find One rich man in ten With a satisfied mind Once I was winning In fortune and fame Everything that I dreamed for To get a start in life's game Then suddenly it happened I lost every dime But I'm richer by far With a satisfied mind Money can't buy back Your youth when you're old Or a friend when you're lonely Or a love that's grown cold The wealthiest person Is a pauper at times Compared to the man With a satisfied mind When my life is over And my time has run out My friends and my loved ones I'll leave there's no doubt But one thing's for certain When it comes my time I'll leave this old world With a satisfied mind

about

Niamh Varian-Barry, former lead-singer of Solas, has recently released her debut solo album ‘Wings’ to critical acclaim. Her voice has been praised worldwide and this album is a perfect blend of her passion for classical and folk music. “No matter where you turn on this album Niamh is in full control of the musical and emotional narrative, her voice unforced, persuasive; her fiddle tone is rich and warm.” (Seán Laffey) From cinematic, luscious landscapes to intimate vocal tracks, this album showcases Varian-Barry’s talents. Niamh is joined on the album by a stellar team of musicians including cellist Natalie Haas, guitarist Gerry O’Beirne and accordionist Peter Staunton. Engineered in Studio Mhic an Daill by Donogh Hennessy of Lúnasa fame, the album is a mix of self-composed and contemporary songs and instrumentals.

“A top-drawer debut, a top-drawer album, from a top-drawer performer.” - Irish Music Magazine
